Case Overview
It was an in-house project of SEOSkit. I was planning to make plenty of new websites to gain some quality traffic. Another purpose behind making such websites was to experiment with some SEO tactics I invented.
The site we will analyze today targets a specific region. The niche wasn’t very big. Yet, it had a traffic potential of almost a million.
It was a WordPress site. Only a few members have been working on this project along with me. As the website has tons of potential, we are still putting lots of effort here. Today, I will share the progress and data-driven analysis based on current conditions.
A Simple Yet Effective SEO Strategy to Pull Over Traffic Organically
Let me tell you one thing before the strategy. It is a very simple method. You don’t need to be a veteran SEO to achieve such a result. So, keep reading till the end and start your journey as an SEO guy.
Accurate Niche Selection
The first and foremost challenge for us was to pick the right niche. Our intention from the beginning was to gain heavy traffic without any delay. So, we were looking for several types of niches. From tech to fashion, we didn’t leave a single stone unturned.
Then, I found one niche that had traffic potential more than we expected. The easter egg was that each site on the first page of the SERPs in this niche had a very low amount of DR, mostly around 5-35
So, we analyzed their site age and content quality. No one was too old to become the king of the niche. And content quality was easily beatable for our writers. That’s why we made our decision to work on this niche.
Making a Plain & Responsive Website
After confirming the niche, we pushed our in-house developer to create a very minimalistic website using any CMS he wished. The key reasons why we went for CMS rather than custom code are:
Targeted audiences of this niche only preferred quality content rather than mind-blowing layouts or features.
Page designs could be created according to the niche without any huge effort. Even our competitors went for WordPress mostly.
Custom sites would take lots of time and we couldn’t waste valuable time meaninglessly.
We got our site ready to launch within 4 working days. Meanwhile, we picked a domain name that would represent both the niche and uniqueness. I was very lucky that I figured out a 7-character domain name with .com at the end.
The reasons for so much effort in finding a good domain were:
A domain that exactly resembles the niche, has fewer characters, and .com at the end is very easy to attract Google and gain ranks.
Short and catchy domains are also easy to remember. It can increase repetitive and dedicated visitors.
Effective Keyword Research
We didn’t wait for the website to start researching keywords. My SEO teammate had already started working on keywords and content strategy right after niche selection.
First, we tried to understand who our targeted audiences were. We used tools like Ahrefs, SEMrush, and Surfer to figure out the most demanding keywords at the beginning. We went through the top SERP pages of those keywords. The SEO team was trying to learn:
What was the motive (intent) of our possible visitors
Which type of content did they prefer most
Which were the related searches of those keywords
Then, we started to list all types of keywords in this niche. We sorted out and selected only those that have higher traffic potential and lower difficulty (KD).
We also considered search volume sometimes (SV), but not always as there’s always a chance that you might acquire traffic more than the SV.
Regular Article Publishing
After spending 10 days in niche picking, web design, and keyword research, it was time to create and publish content regularly. SEOSkit is blessed with some skilled content writers. They aligned with the SEO team for flawless content mapping.
For say, our niche had 3 main topics: A, B, and C. Each of them had at least 10-20 sub-topics. For a proper content strategy, we decided to cover everything under A. Writers wrote some quality and high-value content for the main topic. Then, they went to cover up all the subtopics.
They started a new topic or category only when they had finished the previous topic completely through valuable words.
The on-page SEO guys also followed the same strategy. No matter how many articles were stacked, they were published accordingly to cover topics gradually. It also helped us to create a solid interlinking between the pages.
The website got new articles every day. There was no break. It gave a positive signal to Google. Google bot considered that we were able to give new resources to the visitors daily.
Monitor Daily
My Job didn’t end with content publishing. I kept observing the growth and impressions of pages. If some pages took time to index, we tried to figure out the reason and avoid it later.
Also, we kept a close eye on competitors so that we could compete well.
Finally, An Outstanding Result
After around 10 days of regular content publishing (20 days in total), we were able to:
Gain 2.1K search traffic
All pages till now indexed
More than 60% of the pages appear on the first two SERP pages
Judging by the data and possibilities, I think the site will hit 100K search traffic after 6 months. We can say the project was a success long before we imagined it.
